It is with great sadness that we have to say "good bye" to Werner Ströhle, one of the four founding fathers of the Hypomeeting Götzis. Werner was the heart and soul of our combined event meeting for many decades.
Since the beginnings of the Hypomeeting in 1975, Werner has worked tirelessly to make the event what it is today: a magnet for the best decathletes and heptathletes worldwide, a venue for top sporting performances and a place where the international all-around family meets year after year.
Many awards have accompanied his sporting and social commitment. Among others
- the gold medal of merit for officials from the market town of Götzis
- the Gold Medal of Honor of the Austrian Athletics Association
- the Gold Medal of Honor for services to Vorarlberg Sport and
- the Grand Decoration of Merit of the State of Vorarlberg for exemplary social achievements.
In 2022, Werner was appointed Honorary President of the sponsoring association "Verein zur Förderung der Leichtathletik".
Werner distinguished himself through his organizational skills, as well as his sociable, cheerful, open and cordial manner.
With his vision of giving the Hypomeeting a special atmosphere, he managed, together with all the volunteers, to make the event an annual highlight in the athletics calendar. His efforts and commitment were recognized worldwide and made Götzis a synonym for all-around sport at the highest level.
Werner Ströhle leaves a gap - his loss affects both the sporting world and all those who were lucky enough to know him personally. His values, dedication and kindness will always be remembered.
We will remember Werner Ströhle with honor as one of the most influential personalities of the athletics melee.
