World champion Anna Hall-Slayton will not
compete in Götzis again until 2027

Götzis, May 13, 2026

The current number 1 in the world rankings, Tokyo world champion and Götzis 2025 winner Anna Hall-Slayton (USA) has withdrawn her participation in the 51st Hypomeeting Götzis 2026 at short notice. The second-best heptathlete in history does not yet feel ready to compete in a heptathlon in which she wanted to present herself from her best side.

The organizers were recently informed that the current world champion in the heptathlon, Anna Hall-Slayton(USA), is withdrawing from this year's Hypomeeting Götzis. The US-American celebrated her comeback in Götzis a year ago after a long injury break and immortalized herself in the all-time best list as the second-best heptathlete in history with 7032 points.

This year, however, she does not yet feel sufficiently ready for the outdoor season to present the audience in Götzis with another of her best heptathlons over the two days of competition. For Hall-Slayton, a start in Götzis is synonymous with being able to give her absolute best over the seven disciplines, as she explains in a statement:

"Unfortunately, I won't be competing at this year's Hypomeeting in Götzis. It is my favorite meet in the whole world, but it just wasn't in the cards this year. I would never want to give the Götzis crowd anything less than my best. A tough but correct decision to be cautious this year. Götzis has shown me what I am capable of when I am happy and 100% healthy. My team and I must protect those at all costs. After learning the hard way in 2024, I promised myself I would listen to my body this time around. I look forward to returning to Götzis in 2027 on our
2-year push to defend my World title in Beijing and make a run at the podium at the LA 2028 Olympics. It breaks my heart not to be there with you all. Thank you for understanding and for the continued support on this magical journey. And a big good luck to everyone competing!" - Anna Hall-Slayton (USA).
