Review Day 1 | Hypomeeting Götzis

We were able to experience a unique atmosphere, incredible luck with the weather and, above all, numerous world-class performances over the past two days at the 49th Hypomeeting Götzis/Vorarlberg.

Victory number two: Anouk Vetter takes home her second Götzis victory

The decision to hold the hypomeeting in Götzis instead of the European Championships in Rome definitely paid off for Anouk Vetter, as she said herself after the 800m run. On the first day, the Dutchwoman was able to score points with solid performances, even if she didn't stay in first place after the 200m run. The American Michelle Atherley had held this interim leadership until then.

But on day 2 there were numerous twists and turns in the heptathlon: After the long jump, the Swiss Annik Kälin briefly took the lead, earning a strong 1,072 points with a jump of 6.70m. In the following discipline, however, the tide turned again because Anouk Vetter is known to be a very good javelin thrower and threw it to 57.91m. This meant she took the lead in the overall ranking. Michelle Atherley won the final 800m run again with a strong time of 2:08.55 minutes, but Anouk Vetter could no longer be caught. Today she wins in Götzis for the second time with 6,642 points.

Overall, three women in the women's heptathlon: Michelle Atherley (USA), Tori West (AUS) and Abigail Pawlett (GBR) set a new personal best in the heptathlon. The German Vanessa Grimm qualified for the European Championships in Rome with 6,307 points.

With her performance this weekend, Anouk Vetter is now the new world best of the year in the heptathlon.

Warner puts on the Götzis crown for the 8th time

In his eleventh start in Götzis, Damian Warner won the decathlon for the eighth time. After an exciting first day and a constant duel with Simon Ehammer, Warner was able to take over the leader position from Ehammer during the second day. With only a 16 point lead after day 1 and a fast run over the 110m hurdles, Simon Ehammer was able to maintain his lead even after the sixth discipline. After the discus and a strong performance from Warner on 46.41m, the Canadian took the lead in the overall classification - and never gave it up again.

The Dutchman Sven Roosen caused a big surprise and an incredible increase in his personal best by 360 points to 8,517 points. The 22-year-old Dutchman had one success after another on his third appearance in Götzis and set a new PB in 6 out of 10 disciplines!

A total of eight athletes set a new personal best in the decathlon this weekend, including the young Swiss and Götzis debutant Andrin Huber, with 7,873 points. The German Tim Nowak also set a new PB with 8,282 points and thus qualified for the European Championships in Rome.

ÖM in the heptathlon: Verena Mayr is the new Austrian champion

The Austrian Heptathlon Championships were also held during the Hypomeeting. Five Austrians started, and three were able to finish their heptathlon: Verena Mayr, Ivona Dadic and Chiara Schuler.

The new Austrian heptathlon champion, Verena Mayr, placed 8th in the overall ranking of the Hypomeeting with 6,196 points, while Ivona Dadic came 10th in the overall ranking. Chiara Schuler finished the competition in 15th place with 5,822 points.
