The year 2023 brings with it
- theEuropean Indoor Championships (Istanbul, TUR, 02.03. to 05.03.23),
- the European U23 Championships (Espoo, FIN, 13.07. to 16.07.23) and
- the World Championships (Budapest, HUN, 19.08. to 27.08.23)
once again some major highlights of the season, which the top athletes have been working towards for months.
The limit for the World Championships in Budapest is 8460 points for the decathlon and 6480 points for the heptathlon. These limits also apply for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (the qualification period for the all-around competition begins on December 31, 2022). If fewer than 24 decathletes or 24 heptathletes meet the limit, the field of participants will be replenished via the world rankings.
The World Athletics Combined Events Tour 2023 comprises 12 meetings. Six of these meetings have "Gold Level" status (Desenzano, Götzis, Ratingen, Arona, Bydgoszcz and Talence). Three meetings (including the indoor all-around competitions in Aubiére and Tallinn) have "Silver Level" status and the rest are classified at "Bronze Level".
However, only two meetings have the highest event category "GL " in this series: Götzis and Talence.
The Hypomeeting/Götzis will take place on May 27 and 28. Currently, 6 heptathletes and 9 decathletes have qualified for the World Championships in Budapest. This means that 18 or 15 starting places for the 2023 World Championships are at stake at the Hypomeeting and 24 starting places for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris for all participants.
It will be a special pleasure for us to welcome Olympic champion Damian Warner to his 10th competition in Götzis.
Olympic champion and meeting record holder Roman Sebrle will be at the Mösle Stadium for the first time in his role as coach.
