Highlights 2023
European Indoor Championships (TUR)
This year's all-around season already delivered a first, hardly surpassable highlight in March at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul (TUR).
Poland's Adrianna Sulek challenged the double Olympic champion, two-time world and European champion and three-time European indoor champion Nafissatou Thiam (BEL) right up to the last discipline. She ran the 800 m in a time of 2:07.17 minutes and, with a total result of 5014 points, beat the world record previously held by Nataliya Dobrynska (UKR) by exactly 1 point.
Nafi Thiam (BEL) crossed the finish line exactly 6.43 seconds after Sulek and set a new world record in the indoor pentathlon with 5055 points.
Noor Vidts (BEL) secured the bronze medal with 4823 points.

Simon Ehammer (SUI) was seen as a major challenger to world champion and record holder
Kevin Mayer (FRA). However, with an estimated shoe size of 45, he had probably set his visor to size 43, which unfortunately resulted in no more points in the second discipline.
Nevertheless, it was not a solo effort for the Frenchman. The young Norwegian Sander Skotheim was only beaten by 30 points and set a new Norwegian national record with 6318 points.
Risto Lillemets (EST) also finished on the podium in third place.

U23 European Championships (FIN)
The U23 European Championships took place in Espoo (FIN) in July.
Markus Rooth (NOR) won the decathlon with 8608 points, beating his second-placed compatriot
Sander Skotheim by 18 points. Another new national record for Norway. Third place went to the Dutchman
Sven Roosen (8128 points).
Saga Vanninen (FIN) achieved a home victory in the heptathlon with 6317 points. The Dutchwoman Sofie Dokter (6256 points) and the Estonian Pippi Lotta Enok (6002) completed the podium.
RESULTS
Markus Rooth (2021)
The
highlight of the season was the World Championships in Budapest (HUN) in August. The heptathletes and decathletes delivered absolute top performances.
With Katarina Johnson-Thompson (GBR - 6740 points), Anna Hall (USA - 6720 points) and Anouk Vetter (NED - 6501 points), three former Götzis winners graced the podium.

Decathlon results
The results of the decathletes were incredible. The top 8 finishers achieved
69310 points. This was 346 points better than the previous record for the 10-event at the Hypomeeting Götzis in 2000.
This year's Götzis winner Pierce Lepage (CAN) won with an annual world best of 8909 points, ahead of Götzis series winner Damian Warner (CAN - 8804 points) and Götzis fan Lindon Victor (GRN - 8756 points).
The podium in both the women's and men's categories was completely filled with successful Götzis participants!
